About Property
California State University – Northridge (CSUN) is a public university with a 353-acre campus located in the heart of California’s San Fernando Valley, just outside Los Angeles. CSUN employs over 4,000 faculty and staff and educates nearly 40,000 students every year. The facilities provide over 13,000 parking spaces across 22 parking structures and lots throughout the campus.
Project Information
A limited number of EV charging stations were available on campus, accessible to students, faculty, staff, and the general public. To underscore the school’s sustainability efforts and serve the fast-growing pool of EV drivers, CSUN wanted to not only increase the number of stations, but also find a solution that allowed them to have full control of the price to charge.
By leveraging Chargie’s turnkey solution, CSUN procured the design, permitting, and installation of 94 Level 2 stations and two Level 3 fast chargers across multiple parking lots throughout the campus, including 6 Level 2 stations exclusive to the CSUN campus police station. As part of the project scope, the pre-existing stations were removed and replaced. Additionally, CSUN utilizes Chargie’s software to monitor charging sessions and driver utilization as well as recoup the cost of the school’s electrical consumption.
Chargie now provides ongoing station and network management, maintenance, and 24/7 customer support.
As part of the partnership, CSUN and Chargie also collaborate on educational programming and community sustainability events throughout the year.
